Thank you

Thank you all so much for taking the time to engage with our Flow Country World Heritage Site consultation here on Commonplace. The consultation has now closed and we have been pleased with the high level engagement and enthusiasm for the project.

Later this year, the Flow Country World Heritage Site team will submit our nomination document to UNESCO, who will decide whether The Flow Country becomes a World Heritage Site. The deliberation process could take up to two years and we will keep you all updated through the Flow Country website, which you can find by following this link: https://www.theflowcountry.org.uk/world-heritage-site/

It is so important that we have been able to demonstrate interest and support among local communities, so your contributions here on commonplace and through attending our in-person consultation events in June have been hugely helpful for our bid.

I would also like to take this opportunity to bring to your attention an ongoing consultation for the proposed Flow Country World Heritage Site Management Plan, which can be found by following this link: https://consult.highland.gov.uk/kse/event/36987. By following this link, you will be able to view our draft management plan and complete a survey giving your views.

Community consultation kicks off in Brora on 9th May

In early 2020 The Flow Country was chosen as the UK's candidate site for World Heritage Site inscription. Since then, The Flow Country Partnership has been working hard to prepare a full nomination to UNESCO, who will make the final decision of whether The Flow Country is included on the World Heritage Site list.

An important part of this process is community consultation. Starting in Brora on May 9th, we will carry out over three weeks of drop-in consultation events to share the progress of our project and hear your thoughts on The Flow Country's World Heritage Site bid.

A Flow Country World Heritage Site could bring many benefits to the communities of Caithness and Sutherland. Each World Heritage Site brings different benefits to its local communities and it is important that local people are involved at an early stage to determine the types of benefits that they want to receive.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at our drop-in events, so please take a look at the timetable below and share this news with friends and family.

There will be tea, coffee and biscuits at all events, so please do come along for a chat.
